The making of MOJO: A tale of music, voodoo and cocktails

The most important part of any bar is without doubt it’s customers. Fortunately for MOJO they’ve already built up a dedicated following by serving up some of the finest liquor in the land over the last decade, but now wanted to expand upon this success and get people excited about their bars even if they hadn’t actually stepped foot inside one.
To do this, we needed to bring the cherished MOJO experience onto the internet. All the music, the people and the personality. So, we went all out and did just that!
All the music
MOJO prides itself on it’s aural offerings, so of course music has to feature heavily on the website. How better to do this than actually pull through a live stream of what’s playing at any exact moment in any of the 3 locations? Using some clever wizardry we’ve given people an acoustic insight into what to expect from a typical evening of MOJO. The flash player displays all the info you will need about the current track, complete with album artwork – making it perfect for people to see exactly what to expect should they head down.
Of course we were never going to stop there. The Mojo staff can also submit their favourite (or most hated) music to the site for visitors to review, a great piece of ‘sticky’ content to really involve customers.
The people
MOJO lovers generally all have two things in common. They all love their music and they certainly all love a drink. So we decided to provide these alcoholic music lovers with an on-line community (or ‘MOJO family’) where they can chat, exchange thoughts, arrange nights out, create groups, upload videos, photos and more.
This community part of the site will grow and evolve organically over time, as all the content is provided by visitors rather than MOJO. It’s proved a real success in the short time the site has been live, with over 300 members currently signed up.
The personality
Bringing the unique personality of a bar, restaurant or shop onto people’s screens is something we pride ourselves in doing better than the rest. With MOJO we’ve gone all out with all the little features and quirks that make MOJO… well, MOJO. Take the history page for example. Not content with simply having a few words, we delved deep into MOJO’s dark history and unearthed a few facts! Did you know there are aliens living in Wigan?!
It’s not just the pretty pictures either. The copy is very carefully scribed to fit the MOJO humour and personality. None of the text feels out of place.
Just one more little thing…
…and that’s the fully featured online shop, for all your MOJO memorabilia needs. It takes care of stock, payment and even automatically gifts wraps all purchases (ok, so maybe not, but it would be a nice feature!)
And we think that just about covers it. It’s probably the most feature packed site we’ve built, containing pretty much everything bar the kitchen sink. All this functionality serves a purpose though and when combined, provides a true online experience – the MOJO experience.
